Most times, if you are skilled enough, you don’t even have to block sinamay; you can just craft it with your hands.”

Sinamy is used in milnery to create hats or facinators and is a type of fabric that has a fine weave made from coconut. You buy it on a roll as you do many other fabrics and it is available printed or in plain colours. The advantages are that it is stiff and easy to mold shapes with’ It is a great medium for making sculptures or shapes that would be then easy to use silk fibers over the top to create paper sculptures, that’s my thinking anyway but that’s sort of using it as a mold, where in itself it clearly already has it’s uses.
